It’s that time of year again – the 2023 Waukesha Walk to End Alzheimer’s is just days away on September 9th. This is an event we look forward to and get involved with every year. Our team at Elder Advisors Law believes in the mission and effort to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research.
We believe this is a perfect opportunity to give an update on the fight against Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Alzheimer’s By the Numbers
Today, an estimated 6.7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s dementia according to the Alzheimer’s Association. This number continues to increase with more than 55 million cases worldwide and over 10 million new cases diagnosed each year. Additionally, more than 16 million Americans spend nearly 20 billion hours providing care for loved ones with this disease.
According to medical research, hospitalization and critical illnesses in older people increase the risk of long-term cognitive impairment. This research has led to some concern in the Alzheimer’s community that a steep increase in diagnoses following the COVID-19 pandemic is possible.
Doing Our Part
These shocking numbers are exactly why we support the Walk to End Alzheimer’s every year. As a law firm, we work closely with clients at various stages of their Alzheimer’s journey, their families, and their caregivers.
Both Founding Attorney Doug Ley and Attorney John Koenig are certified dementia practitioners. This means our team is led with specialized training, education, and resources to assist individuals impacted by the forms of dementia both directly and indirectly. Attorney Koenig also sits on the walk committee with the Waukesha Walk to End Alzheimer’s to help with planning and organizing this important event.
Alzheimer’s work is a year-round effort for the team at Elder Advisors Law. We regularly give out free resources to people living with the disease and their caregivers. We know first-hand just how devastating this disease is, and we are always here to help. Contact the firm if you or a loved one is dealing with Alzheimer’s and needs help planning for what comes next.
Additionally, if you’re near our Venice, Florida location, the Sarasota County Walk to End Alzheimer’s takes place on October 28, 2023, at Nathan Benderson Park. Your support for these incredible causes is greatly appreciated and will play an important role in finding a cure for this disease that impacts so many lives.
